A few weeks ago, I posted this on Substack Notes:

But it is now September 30, and OKAY FINE, it can be fall. Unlike 98 percent of the Northeast, I don’t run headlong towards flannel and sweaters and pumpkin spice everything. I tend more towards the “mild panic at the coming darkness” school of thought and have a blatant dread of stick season. But what’s great about my late summer garden will continue to be great until first frost — which could come tomorrow or as late as November, who can say!! (This uncertainty is also so great for my anxiety!)

So let’s revel in what’s great about the late summer (early fall if you must) garden while we can.
