A Week of Divorce Privilege
Plus a grocery store miracle, and other good reads.
My kids finally had their last day of school on Thursday (yes, the New York school year goes so late!) and it’s fair to say we crawled to the finish line this year. They are now off to the Adirondacks with their dad, and I’m excited for a kid-free week to regroup before we get into our summer groove. (This is absolutely divorce privilege, and it’s hard to know how great it will be until you’ve got it!) I’m planning a lunch date with my mom, some catch-ups with friends, plus lots of garden puttering, reading, and ice cream (Jack is Very Serious about ice cream).
I’m currently reading this and this. Would love to hear how summer is starting out for you (any good beach reads??), and if you need some more good reads and treats, scroll on!

My Feet Are On the Internet
I thought to myself, “Surely not my feet.” Then I parked, thought a little more about the kind of men who have yelled at me on the Internet over the years… and picked up my phone.
Skinny Is Not an Act of Rebellion
But Liv Schmidt and the new pro-ana conservatives want you to believe otherwise.

Two Things I Love
1. The jumpsuit I live in now.
I’ve always loved the fabric of Imbodhi jumpsuits, but the cut of their classic style doesn’t quite work for me. This one feels like it’s bra-friendly big sister and I’m in love with the blue but all the colors are so good. (Here’s $15 off if you’re tempted and here’s the rest of the outfit.)
2. The day I FINALLY remembered to bring enough reusable bags to the grocery store.
Okay, maybe you are innately good at this and always have plenty of reusable bags in your car. But I have long struggled to remember to bring bags to the store, which means I end up buying yet more reusable bags from the grocery store, and those reusable bags are actually not great — so bulky to store, prone to breaking, and I never got them back out to the car after I unloaded the groceries. But I’ve been gradually building up my collection of these reusable bags — the patterns are so good! they fold up super small and are very sturdy!— and I finally achieved it: A grocery shop where I had exactly the right number of bags for everything! Will I ever do it again? Maybe not. But gosh, it was glorious.

My summer has been good! We have been trying to host a low-key Sunday dinner almost every week of summer to try to feel more connected to our buddies, which has been cool. I have a goal of spending more time in water than I need to work on. Though I did go to the lake yesterday. I read Sandwich by Catherine Newman and Same As It Ever Was by Claire Lombardo recently, which were both absolutely awesome books. And they are both about like moms with teen/young adult kids so it was cool to read them close together.
Just reread Sandwich for a book group and liked it even more the second time.
Park Avenue by Renee Ahdieh was fun and twisty.
Neko Case's memoir The Harder I Fight the More I Love You was beautiful and bittersweet, just like her lyrics.
Harriet Tubman Live in Concert by Bob the Drag Queen was an unexpected and thought provoking delight.
Now working on Dawn Staley's memoir Uncommon Favor.
