Joining you was SUCH a joy, Virginia! I'd been genuinely yearning for a conversation like this, and I'm so thrilled you were up for having it. Thank you for so thoughtfully amplifying so many nuanced issues through your show. It's truly a gem.
YES. This episode is amazing. I'm a social work professor, and I teach a course on chronic illness and disability. I include plenty of resources and education on both ableism and fat phobia and this is exactly the conversation to help students really understand how they intersect. I just made this episode a required listen. Thank you both.
Ugh, yes, it's the WORST! Far too many doctors love to pick the one thing about you they can make the scapegoat for everything else, rather than actually taking the time to throughly investigate what you're sharing.
I had forgotten about the Caboodle! I currently have orange glitter nails for the new Taylor album and it occurred to me the last time I had glitter was probably the late 90s!
I think a lot about the fatphobia of the doctor’s office but I hadn’t thought about how stigmatizing all those sitting articles are for wheelchair users! I loved this podcast.
Oh this makes my day, Anna! I've been a subscriber of yours for a minute on here and so appreciate how you approach the (too often toxic) culture of wellbeing. If the vibe ever hits for you to film a seated workout, I am here for it!
If you are interested in more fun nail polish I love the brand ILNP! I think it’s only online, it’s a small/ independent brand.
For the sticker thing, I like to use a shape hole punch with painter’s tape - you put the strip on your (dry) painted nail, then another nail polish on the hole, then peel off the tape. Much easier to grab than a sticker would be!

With apologies to your students for contributing to their homework (ha!), I'm so thrilled to know this can serve as a resource!
Hahaha well- Not the first time you’ve added to their work load and won’t be the last I’m sure!! <3
Thank you for your work — so important! Honored to contribute with this conversation.
As a superfat person, I REALLY relate to the way Emily described other health issues being ignored by doctors who can’t see past her disability.

So frustrating!!!
Loved this conversation and grateful to discover Emily's work!
And likewise glad to have found your work through this, Oona!
Aww, thanks!

Just here to share some love for the glitter nails! Appreciate you taking the time to listen!

I cannot wait to listen to this! I LOVE "Demystifying Disability" — just one I turn to over and over. YAY.

Ahh that’s so cool to know! I’m star struck 🤩 I LOVE that idea and will absolutely be doing one!
Omg so excited for this.

Ooh that’s genius!
