Because I value my blood pressure, I wasn’t going to read Caity Weaver’s new New York Times Magazine piece about trying to quit sugar via an expensive Austrian wellness spa.

Despite what my trolls will tell you, I am a person who cares about my health and longevity and that means strenuously avoiding food and body-shaming essays, especially by super privileged women who have not reckoned one bit with their anti-fat bias.

But Extra Butter reader Jessica dropped the piece into the Burnt Toast chat over the weekend, and so I had no choice but to risk life and limb and read this piece—and even skim its 948 comments!!!—so I can give you my unfiltered thoughts.

Please become a paid subscriber because my health insurance premiums will surely triple now that I suffer from the preexisting condition known as “I read that Caity Weaver piece and survived, but barely.”
