On Tuesday, we broke down five of the most common diet culture rules — those little pearls of wisdom that we all learned from Oprah or Weight Watchers or like every diet article I wrote back in my women’s magazine days and that still live rent-free in our brains.
I hope reading the analysis of each rule is helping you set those aside. But I am sure there are still more that we could debunk, either right here in the comments today or (if they need a little more digging) in a future reported piece. So shout them out! What diet culture rule still haunts you? When and where did you learn it and how are you working to unlearn it—or why do you still get stuck?
ICYMI, the five I covered on Tuesday are:
“Eat vegetables first” (and related rules like “make vegetables half your plate” and “if you aren’t hungry for an apple, you aren’t hungry).
