The first time an Instagram follower DM’ed me one of these reels, I lol-ed. “Behind every gardener is a house full of indoor chores not getting done.” Damn straight! I thought. I’ve already written about how garden season takes over my morning workouts for a few weeks each spring and summer. It also, absolutely, derails my one-load-a-day laundry system and sometimes the dishes too. 

But then GardenTok took off with this meme and I started getting so many more versions of this reel: “Shout out to everyone who can’t keep up with the laundry but is spending the day in the garden anyway” and “Reminder: The closer you are to your garden, the further you are from the laundry pile.” And finally:

 Oh, right. It’s not just anyone neglecting the laundry to garden. It’s mamas.
