THE EATING INSTINCT is out now!
I know you usually only hear from me once a month-ish, so forgive the mid-month inbox intrusion... but I just wanted to share that The Eating Instinct launched this week! And I so appreciate you loyal newsletter folk who have been following along behind the scenes on this project since it was various piles of taped together notes and rambling Word documents. So I do hope you'll eat something delicious (without apology!) to celebrate with me.
I've surprised my introverted work-from-home writer self by absolutely loving being on book tour, and getting to speak about the book and meet readers all along the East Coast. And there are still three more chances to get yourself to an event:
TONIGHT! Northshire Books
Saratoga Springs, NY
November 16, 7pm TOMORROW! Miami Book Fair
Miami, FL
Saturday November 17, 5pm Tuesday after Thanksgiving! RJ Julia Booksellers
Madison, CT
November 27, 7pm
And we're wrapping up week one on sale with a nice flurry of media buzz too...
Alex Van Buren interviewed me for Health.com — and offers the best analysis of the book I've seen so far.
Medium.com has a (free!) exclusive excerpt from Chapter 2: How the Eco-Food Movement Mass-Markets Eating Disorders.
Also did this interview with The Globe & Mail.
And wrote this for Quick & Dirty Tips (because, no, this is not a diet book — but I do have ideas on how you can have a better relationship with food).
Real Simple recommended the book in their November issue (not yet online) and there are more nice reviews in Scientific American, Shelf Awareness, Kirkus Reviews, and Publisher's Weekly.
Here's a quick interview with NPR's WYPR On The Record.
And I've been making the podcast rounds as well, so if you're dying to hear even more about me, the writing process, the personal story that led me to write this book, and, really, all things food, download one of these great podcasts: #AmWriting with Jess & KJ, Courageously Go!, Dietitians Unplugged Podcast, Motherbirth, and Food Psych with Christy Harrison.
So now what? I'll be continuing to speak and write about women, bodies, and our relationship with food. If you're excited about the book and want to help it find its readers, I've got two easy assignments for you:
1. When you get your book: Share a picture of it on the social media platform(s) of your choice and tag #TheEatingInstinct. (Lots of you are already doing this — a million thank yous!!! Haven't ordered yet? Here are all the links you need.)
Don't want to fuss with a picture?
Click HERE to share the Amazon book link on Facebook.
Or HERE to share the IndieBound book link on Facebook.
2. Leave a review on Amazon and/or GoodReads. Good reviews are KEY to books finding their readers on these behemoth sites. You don't have to write anything long or profound (and yes, you're still allowed to do this even if we've met IRL).
OK! Promise your next newsletter will be more useful info, analysis and inspiration, less shameless promotion. But thanks so much for sharing this moment with me, friends.
