Friday Thread: What Do Plus Size Influencers Owe Us?
A few weeks ago, Corinne and I recorded a podcast episode about the current flurry of plus size influencers who have gotten smaller recently, thanks in large part to their use of Wegovy, Mounjaro, and other GLP-1 drugs. We got into Rosey Blair, Brianne Huntsman and Alex of Shiny By Nature, to name a few. (Listen here if you missed it!)
This week, New York Times correspondent (and Burnt Toast subscriber!) Katie J.M. Baker quoted some of that episode in her story, “They Promoted Body Positivity. Then They Lost Weight.” Katie considers Rosey, as well as formerly plus size models Dronme Davis, and Gabriella Lascano. And her piece reminded me that we haven’t yet had this conversation on main here.
So maybe it’s time to do that?
