This (kids) bookstore owner has sold the hell out of your book this past week, and every interaction has been delightful AND some have been self-admitted Burnt Toasters. Big love for you here in Western Mass.
One day, decades from now, educators will have Fat Talk on their curriculum as an example of a piece of work that completed shifted the culture. You have moved the needle. Brava, Virginia!!

Yes you have!! ! My daughter is a developmental psychology major at the university of Minnesota and she wrote her professors about discussions around childhood obesity and linked to two article with your work in it and her professor’s response was incredible!! Truly appreciated the information, called out their own unconscious bias and talked about always working to be a better scientist and human being! It was beautiful and made me cry!! There is much to be hopeful for! Thank you for being such a fabulous resource!!
Congratulations, I’m so happy for you!! And I’m also happy for all of us, because the more mainstream attention your book gets, the more people will learn about all the important things in it, and we will all benefit.
Virginia, I am so happy for you and you are so generous, but I regret to tell you that: You did this. You. You built this community. You created a vibrant on-line community and a fantastic podcast. And, yes, I know there were people who assisted and I am proud to have been an early subscriber, but (Elle Woods voice) you did it.
This is so amazing! Huge congrats! (Also, I had recommended that my library network, in the western Boston suburbs, buy Fat Talk in electronic version; when I got the notification that they'd bought it and I was on the wait list, there were 42 other holds on it. And now there are 48!)
We're leaving it out on our living room table for all who come over to see, and I'm so grateful to have it as a resource for our family. My husband is reading and loving it, too. Thank you so much for the deep work you're doing to shift culture in this way -- the NYT list is so well deserved and a sign this shift is needed 🤍
So incredible! You so so deserve this accolade, and I'd like to think I've done my part in supporting anti-diet journalism, now having purchased the book for quite a few family members! :-)
(Tw for medical fatphobia). I went in for my annual physical this week. The university health system puts out a magazine, and I picked it up in the waiting room because the cover said something to the effect of “can you be overweight and healthy.” And I thought oh! We’re still using overweight but maybe this will be okay. And the article was an interview with doctors who were like yep! You totally can be! But also ob*sity is a disease and we have weight loss drugs now.
Anyway, I was so grateful for your book, your work, and this community this week. I still haven’t been brave enough to push back against my dr when she mentions weight loss as a solution (I am also a fairly recent small fat so it’s been a wild shift), but I can at least remember that diets don’t fucking work, that there are solutions for medical issues that don’t involve weight loss, and that voices like yours will make a difference in healthcare. ❤️

Like, you just have good people, is what I’m saying.
