I think the universe is telling me it's time to work with a stylist. I've been adrift for a while. I'm 49 and have been plus size my whole life. In the 80's Lane Bryant was one of my ONLY options and the clothes were very much not designed for teens back then. Fast forward to today where I'm past the little kid days (tween now) and I have no idea what I like to wear. I think I like black because I spill (coffee) and I sweat. But maybe not? And I've always loved denim but I read about how resource intensive it is to produce and it feels overwhelming to find more eco friendly denim that is also my size?! I'm tired ya'll. So maybe it's time. Thanks for a really lovely interview that highlights a really cool approach to style and stylists.

I agree with the universe! Glad this was helpful. Feel you on "do I even like this or do I just think I like this," that struggle is REAL.

I was hoping you'd talk to a stylist! As you know the fashion-nutrition cabal has also gotten very good at making middle-aged men feel insecure, starting with the arbitrary and capricious assignment of sizes. I had not thought to order multiple sizes of clothing until now. But I will!

It’s a GAME-CHANGER.

I know you saw my comments on Anne Helen Peterson's article as well, but gosh, I love the way your pieces wove together this week. Last week, after a few months of working with a HAES nutritionist, I finally ordered a bunch of jeans that will fit the new shape of my post-Covid body. I didn't throw away my old jeans, because I'm a clothes hoarder after a lifetime of struggling to find pants that are long enough, but I did put them in a closet in the guest room so I don't see them every day. I feel like that was my first baby step, but I love the next steps this gives me to think about.

Additionally, I also can't believe that people don't buy multiple sizes! With my height I grew up ordering from the JC Penney tall catalog, which always involved calling and talking to a person and ordering things by item number (sometimes you called from the special brown phones at the store that directly dialed you into their call center) to be shipped to our local JC Penney in our mall, and then paying when we picked up our items from the catalog pick up desk...you don't want to go through that process any more than necessary, so we always ordered multiples sizes. It's, like, automatic for me to order a thousand items and return half of them.

And oops hit post too fast! Thanks for the lovely comments. So funny how AHP and I ended up both on this beat this week - and Lyz Lenz did a great thread about clothes on Monday! I guess everyone is figuring out how to get dressed right now.

I subscribe to all three of you and I feel like you guys got on the phone last week and planned this. Then again, I'm also desperately trying to figure out how to put clothes on my body right now so maybe that's just our national mood.

We do have a group text but also yes to the national mood!

Yes, it’s such a hassle but also literally the only way to shop.

Dacy, please share the REI shoes you got! This is my same kind of exercise and my shitty Sauconys are cutting it.
