Virginia, I hope you know -- truly know -- what a service your work is to the world. You have not only changed my life, you've changed the lives of my kids, which means the lives of my grandchildren, and their children, and theirs.... this is ancestor/descendant-level stuff and I am SO GRATEFUL. I'm just going to keep showing up here saying it.
Thank you for helping to replace my mother as the voice in my head when it comes to family dinners and generally feeding my kid. Love her to death but her relationship to food is not healthy (and she thinks any other relationship to food is not healthy).
This installation of Burnt Toast feels like Oprah's annual segment "Favorite Things". Thank you for the early holiday gift. Now my browser windows are full of articles I can't wait to dive into!
I don't know if you remember, V, but me interviewing you about why family dinner is actually NOT the fulcrum of all that is important to families was how we first spoke person-to-person. And look how far we've come and how much we've hated on since then :) You're the best.
I feel like I am on such a pendulum or wrecking ball with this. One extreme: feeling like I’m cooking the same five safe meals over and over even though I don’t like many of them. Other extreme: Taking 2-3 Milk Street classes a week and serving whatever I make. Both extremes have their benefits. Not needing to think about dinner much on the one. Or discovering my kids like asparagus and Romanian cheese pies (while still hating squash) on the other. My Libra soul would like some balance though.
