What Are Your Best Fat Girl Clothing Hacks?
(You don't have to be fat or a girl to answer this.)
Before we get into today’s Friday Thread, I have a burning question for you all: Do you care about Substack’s new Chat feature?
Yes, this is them trying to be Twitter or Discord. Yes, currently, it only works on the iPhone app. No, I’m not particularly dying to do it because I spend enough of my life on message-based apps. But! I absolutely love chatting with you all. So if there is a groundswell of enthusiasm, I’ll set it up and we can see what we think!
Vote here, please and thank you:
Friday Thread Time!
A few weeks ago, I saw this TikTok (guys I’m really trying with TikTok) about how to stretch out a slightly tight shirt and I tried it on a sweatshirt that came out of the dryer a smidge shorter and lo and behold it worked.
And then in yesterday’s conversation about plus size kids’ clothes, Kaitlin posted:
I would love to know more about how folks use tailoring to help clothes fit, feel, and look better (for themselves rather than their kids).
I am a fan of tailoring now that I’ve found a local tailor I love, and just recently had her de-puff some overly puffy dress sleeves and hem the one pair of jeans I only sort of hate so they actually work with my clog boots. But it’s still a whole project to make the appointment, go to the appointment, and pick up the tailored clothes. So I’d love to hear your thoughts on Kaitlin’s questions (especially you sewists, I know you’re out there!), but also: What are your favorite tips and hacks for making clothes fit better?
