As a newish subscriber, I am reading this for the first time.. I have recently become aware that my body needs sugar, more than I give it. for example, if I eat more carbs in my meals during the day, I have no need for a nightcap .“ I think I was kind of craving my post work cocktail because I needed the sugar! Knowledge is power; thank you so much♥️
Ok I LOVE the sugar parts of this, but the addiction parts were distracting, like this part: “restriction and abstinence, because that’s the best way we know right now to help people stabilize and live a balanced life.” Uh, what about harm reduction? What about giving people clean needles and such? I’m not a substance abuse professional, but I don’t think total abstinence is realistic for everyone. Just like there isn’t a one-size-fits-all way to eat.
You know what, I think that is totally on me in terms of shaping the interview and editing - I’m 1000% sure Lisa supports harm reduction and clean needle programs. (As do I!) We didn’t drill deeply enough into the addiction side of this discussion since we were focused on explaining why sugar is NOT addictive — were I doing an episode about substance abuse, you would have heard much more nuance!
