Loved this conversation! The house size conversation was so interesting. When we were house shopping I kept telling my husband “it’s too big” because we had lived in my in-laws huge house for a year and a half and I absolutely HATED having to clean it all the time. There were just too many places for my kids to make huge messes. Now we have a basement that is mostly just a play room and I can shut the door and not think of it.
There is absolutely a sweet spot to me where it's big enough to escape the mess (and each other) when needed, but not so big that cleaning/maintaining it becomes your primary hobby.
Thank you for this very interesting conversation! I'll be checking out the book. It was fascinating to get a glimpse of what it's like on the other side of the coin, for people who have trouble resting when there are still care tasks to do. I would have really liked more details about what those of us who have trouble starting can try, although I imagine there might be more of this in KC's other work!
You will find TONS of brilliant strategies for your side of the coin in KC's TikTok/Instagram content and book. I'd say that's really her main focus, and rightly so.
I loved this so much!! I also get stressed out by clutter and disorder, so everything about this spoke to me. (Ironically, I was vacuuming the whole house while listening, my usual Friday afternoon habit, because a fur-free house allows me to relax more over the weekend.) Also I am now trying to figure out how I can set up a puzzle area in my office because that sounds perfect.
I feel silly recommending a product, but as someone with a gaggle of both resident and foster pets AND as a low energy person who feels like any debris on floors is sensory hell...a robot vacuum really changed my life for the better. I apologize if recommending an expensive appliance is annoying or irrelevant! Your comment just made me light up; rarely do I feel like buying something actually solves any of my issues but this was a joyful exception.
Thank you, Laura! I appreciate it. I have a mix of hardwood floors and rugs so I always thought it wouldn't work well, but I'm seeing that there are some models that can tackle that. I'm going to look into it!
I knew as soon as I read the headline this was gonna be KC and THIS CONVO DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Wild applause.
I hope KC writes a book sometime soon about how to move house while drowning! Great convo.
Right!!

Looking forward to it! Thanks as always for using your work to bring such brilliant, compassion-focused writers and teachers into our lives.
Love love love this. Gets at so many feelings I have about my own home. Can't wait to read KC's book. Thank you!
The book is fantastic.
