Thank you, Virginia. While reproductive freedom and anti-diet work might seem disparate on the surface, at their core, both issues are all about valuing bodily autonomy and self-determination, honoring each person’s internal knowing and being, and calling out oppressive systems. This is pretty much all I can think about this morning, and I appreciate you acknowledging it and making space here.

ALLL I can think about. And yes, it connects to anti-diet work in a thousand critical ways. Thanks Lauren!

I encourage us when we talk about this to remember that not just women can get pregnant. People of all genders need access to abortion. Thanks from your friendly neighbor hood nonbinary trans person who can get pregnant!

Thank you Madeline! You are completely right. I'll update my language in this post and add a note. (The film's language is not as inclusive as it would be if it were made today -- it is absolutely a historical artifact in that way.)

We knew this. We all knew this. The day after Trump was elected, I said to my husband, there goes Roe and gay marriage. And he -- a lawyer -- said no way, those are settled law. I knew. And even so, this is heart-breaking and enraging. Thank you for your writing, for the Circle and for the links to good pieces. I am sick.

Thank you. All of this. I am so scared for gay marriage. It is inevitably next.

Yes, I had so many versions of this kind of conversation too! If I had a nickel for every time someone (usually a comfortable man of a certain age) minimized my concern and even told me to calm down... I was enraged then, and am now.

O My God. NOTHING gets me the absolute opposite of calm than a rich, straight, white man telling me that I'm over reacting and should calm down. JEEZUM.
