Tuesday Thread: What Are You Wearing This Month?
As regular readers know, the majority of our fat fashion content now lives over on
, where Corinne is doing the Lord’s work finding plus size shirts that are cuter than Madewell, and profiling people with amazing style (of all body types!). But I am also a person who continues to enjoy (mostly) getting dressed every day! Lately, I’ve been sharing favorite outfits over on Instagram, but as I’m on that app increasingly less (love that for me!), I thought it would be fun to also share the occasional what I wore roundup here.My goal with these posts is never to make you feel like you should go buy clothes you probably don’t need. I’m showing how I get dressed because figuring that out as a fat person was such an important part of my own body reclamation work. And because it is endlessly frustrating to look at clothes on retail websites with bodies shaped nothing like mine and have to squint, imagining how a shirt would look on totally different proportions.
I’ll include affiliate links because we’re often asked for sources and finding/adding those links is labor—so using links that also earn Burnt Toast a small commission feels like a fair trade. (This doesn’t raise the price for you at all.) But I remain committed to keeping Burnt Toast and ad- and sponsor-free space, so you’re only ever going to see clothes that I purchased (or maybe borrowed from a friend or something); I don’t accept free merchandise from brands. If you ever want to track down something else you’ve seen me wear on Insta or here in the newsletter, it’s likely saved in the Burnt Toast LTK Shop.
This may be a monthly or otherwise recurring segment. Today I’m keeping the whole post free but future Outfit Reports will likely get paywalled. If this is content you find useful, consider joining us!
September What I Wore
This September has been a true shoulder season in the Hudson Valley — a bunch of cold mornings, a bunch of hot days. So I’ve pulled out colder weather stuff, but am also still living in Birkenstocks and it’s confusing as usual. I have mostly resisted shopping—there is only one new purchase here!—in part because the weather confuses me too much and in part because I’m still testing out Nuuly (full report coming soon!), so a few of these pieces are rentals.
Outfit details. Wore this to a back to school night and ended up wildly too hot in the cardigan, but the tank and jeans still felt cute. I already discussed Anthropologie’s Colette pants in detail on the pod, but can report a few weeks later, these are still a go-to! (I sized down to 16 from 18/20; they needed a day to stretch out and now are great.)
Outfit details except that link shows a white tank and this is a Gap striped one (only up to XL), both cute! The vest is actually a long line sweater bra that ran big (I’m in 2X here) so I’m using it as a fun top layer. I mean, “sweater bra” was already an inexplicable concept, so why not? (Yes this was the month’s impulse purchase, Labor Day sales come for us all.)
Outfit details. Super proud of this one because I fully shopped my closet for it! Wore this striped button-down all summer, hadn’t worn this legging set for two years but suddenly loving it again. The red faux Birks are fun but have also worn this with sneakers, could maybe even do a boot when it gets cold?
And I’d love to know: What are you excited about, fashion-wise, right now?
Tell us about the clothes (or shoes/bag/whatever!) you’re loving, and how you’re wearing it, if you’ve already got it. Bonus points for brilliant insights about dressing for transitional weather! Or show us what you’re pondering as a fall purchase (links welcome!). Or what you’re hoping to wear but haven’t found yet (someone here might know!). Feel free to also rant about any new trends you just cannot wrap your head around (but let’s remember that it might be not for us, but could be great for someone).
All sizes/genders/etc welcome in the chat, but please include the size range of anything you link or suggest, so fat folks aren’t clicking in frustration.

ICYMI on Big Undies…
Six First Date Dresses. (Maybe pertinent to some of our interests???)
Our girl talks to about how to divest from “flattering.”
Related, I loved Dacy’s piece on the ethics of influencing, something Corinne and I also think about quite a lot as running a Substack increasingly becomes more social media-ish. (See above discussion re: Affiliate links! I also love how Dacy handles getting sent free clothes.)
Please keep sharing fashion here and on Big Undies. I’m moving away from Insta etc. not good for my mental health. You and Corrine and Dacy are my go tops thank you
