Sports Bra Science
Plus bad sweaters, beige kid clothes, and a bevvy of problematic men.
Friday Thread: What Do You Wear to Workout?
Several of you called for more Sports Bra Science after listening to yesterday’s podcast interview with
, to which I say: Read her book! The fascinating, enraging history of the sports bra is in there, as well as a deep dive into the biomechanics of breasts and exercise. But what we really want, of course, is SPORTS BRA RECS, and while we’re on the subject, recs for workout leggings that don’t roll down, and other fat friendly exercise gear.
So let’s crowd-source some data: Share your best, size-inclusive workout gear finds, pls!
Be sure to mention what kind of workouts you wear this stuff for (we all know a different level of sports bra is required for barre vs HIIT vs sustained running…). Please include links, but also note size ranges (and any knowledge you have of their accuracy) to save fat folks from clicking to nowhere.
And if you’re LOOKING for a particular type of workout gear, feel free to post that too because I bet somebody has leads. For instance: I have never really found a workout top I love — by which I think I mean something breathable and loose? All those cute Athleta tanks are cut for small torsos, obvs. And technical hiking shirts are often straight-sized only. I love a “set” (matching leggings and sports bra) but when more shirt is required, I feel stumped.
PS. To get all the fat friendly workout clothing recs, you do need to be a paid Burnt Toast subscriber. Here’s how to join us! Do check out our thread rules if you’re a new commenter.

is right, they actually are.Wow, Justin Timberlake is revolting.
Also not feeling great about the director of Love Actually and Bridget Jones, who regrets the fatphobia in his work but still thinks he can’t say “fat.”
