I haven't listened yet, but I'm SO excited after hearing Tigress Osborn speak to the NYC City Council and learning more about the NAAFA. We are also in dire need of federal law against weight discrimination in Canada, so watching what's happening in the US with interest.
LOVED this one! I'm one of the people who sometimes reads the transcripts and sometimes listens. I def recommend folks listen to this one. It makes me wish I still lived in AZ so I could hang out with Tigress!
I LOVED this today! I'm so thrilled Tigress was on here--what an amazing, beautiful lady!!! So much powerful work being done, and I'm so grateful for that. I signed the petition, and will call my rep, too! Can't wait to see your magical fairy outfit! That photo shoot with the hippo statues is absolutely DIVINE.
one million years after this was posted, I read it. I'm working through an inbox backlog today.
idk if you'll see this, Virginia (or Corinne? I dunno how things work), but I'm very much here for a Richard Simmons deep reporting article! if I'd listened/read this before the survey I would have mentioned it lol
I really loved this interview and something mentioned at the end raised a question for me. Tigress talked about openly using the word "fat" as sort of a bat-signal to indicate fat advocacy as an ethos/mindset to others who might share that and be involved in that work as well. This work is tremendously important to me, but I am not a fat person, and most of the people I interact with are not online enough to be aware of the reclaiming of the word-- they'd assume I was using it as a slur or an insult, if I casually used that language. How would you suggest people who aren't fat, but who want to be good allies, use non-euphemistic language in conversation? I hope this doesn't sound too ignorant or offensive-- please delete if I've misstepped!

Yes! I think NYC is going to be such an important model for other municipalities to replicate.
