I love this today (like always!!!), and I think one of the reasons why is how you both do seem to think alike on so many things, or at least similar, and it is a true joy each and every time I listen to Indulgence Gospel--no matter what subject(s) you're covering! :D
IN for me is more reading old/classic books. OUT for me is reading political newsletters. IN for me is more talking to people on the phone. OUT for me is constant texting/messaging (we'll see how this goes!). IN for me is decluttering/downsizing. OUT for me is buying unless necessary (gonna make an honest effort at this, although I now feel it's necessary to have a Fay Chore Coat!!!).
I'm in love with that woodpecker photo, and think it's absolutely wonderful that you're both into birds!!! <3 I can't wait to see where this takes you! I don't know if it's proper etiquette to recommend another newsletter on here, but I love Life in the Real World by Karen Davis. Her bird (and nature in general) photography is phenomenal, and her writing is very peaceful and soothing as well.
Also I’ve never played this with a child and I don’t know if you want to subscribe yourself for playing a sort of complicated/longer board game, but if you and your 11 yo are both into birds you might like Wingspan. It’s a very pretty game and it’s fun.
I recently got wingspan and it is great, I bet you could play now--but it is a little complicated and I feel like it might be helpful to play with someone who has played before. To me thats much easier than trying to read through a bunch of instructions!
Yeah it’s on the complex side. It’s not too bad once you get the hang of it which I guess is true of many board games. I will be interested to hear what you think if you play it again!
I saw the fay coat while browsing connally goods *yesterday* and almost posted it on big undies to say Corinne this coat is so you but I thought that was too parasocial lol
omg I LOVE that Corinne has a clothing item named for her!
I admit that I rebel against both the bingos and the in/outs for reasons I'm not to sure about, but I also sort of love reading them? and I really enjoyed your conversation! maybe it is that some people/orgs that post them, they do feel proscriptive? maybe I'm just contrary lol. I really did enjoy reading this though :)
I'm glad my question about how Virginia uses her new air fryer was answered haha I hadn't thought of using it for cookies! Sadly I don't have any countertops (hashtag living in Paris in a tiny flat) but I'm yearning.....
Love that Corinne has a clothing item named after her!
Passionfruit is my very favorite flavor. Maui Pie in Kihei does a lilikoi pie that is basically like a key lime pie but with passionfruit and it is the most wonderful thing to me. Also Ellenos brand yogurt w passionfruit.
Cookies are the thing I use my air fryer for the MOST. I like to buy the pillsbury “big” cookie dough (12/pack) and cook as many as I like on those little 1/4 sheets with a silpat. Minimal cleanup. Maximum fresh warm cookies.
2025 started for me with getting lots of PTO scheduled and getting some trips on the books because I did not take all my time last year. I literally was planning trips and sipping champagne on NYE. So vacation time is IN. Overworking is out.
And because I live in LA, it’s been a wild insane start to the year where I’m very grateful for life and safety and community. And I’m reminded to foster community everywhere I can.
Yes yes yes to birding! I got into birding last year and it has changed my life. It is so much fun, easy to do, helps you appreciate nature, and creates a never-ending real-life treasure hunt. I encourage anyone with even a passing interest to try it out and see if it becomes a passion!
I’m leaving this in the comments in the spirit of caring about birds, not as a criticism of your loving your bird feeder. Currently, due to the H5N1 outbreaks across the US, some states are asking people to take their birdfeeders down (and I would be willing to bet this will continue to be a request, made state by state as the virus spreads) because they invite congregations of wild birds and make it possible to spread this virus faster… And it is unfortunately killing birds.
While it was only a concern for waterfowl and chickens, it has been found in song birds and other wild birds that inhabit bird feeders. In addition to this creating danger for the birds, aerosolized bird feces, and exposure to raw meat from infected birds can spread the virus, which is also proving to be deadly to cats.
My birdfeeders were a big source of joy for me, but I’ve taken them down because of this, it puts wild birds, my cats, and my family at risk. I would also add that many people put birdfeeders up and don’t routinely clean them, which amplifies the risk, and if you have birdfeeders and are cleaning them regularly, the research I’ve done would suggest that you should do so with gloves, a mask, and goggles, as well as cleaning any shoes in contact with bird feces, because you risk exposure to H5N1 in exposing yourself to the virus (evidently, conjunctivitis is a symptom because the cellular components of our eyes are most similar to bird cells and make this a likely entry point for the virus).
Anyway, there’s info out there talking about this and I recommend reading up on it, and holding several grains of salt for the ways that our governmental institutions like the CDC are minimizing H5N1 and its impact… I’m getting real January 2020 vibes the more I read and remember how the US handled COVID. This virus is causing massive endangerment to multiple species of animals over the past several years and it’s alarming how little we are hearing about it.
Anyway, thanks for listening/reading and I hope we can continue to keep the birds and one another safe! 💚
Absolutely! I know Internet culture can be really toxic and I sometimes get nervous, not wanting to seem like someone coming in to snatch other peoples joy, but when I started learning about this it really shifted things for me. I appreciate your receiving it as it was intended, which is in the spirit of care ❤️❤️❤️
For those worried about feeding birds because of avian flu, please don’t worry. Avian flu has mostly impacted waterfowl and hawks not songbirds. You should be concerned only if you keep chickens. The seed that drops can spread diseases among the birds but cleaning your feeders a couple of times a year solves that. There was a disease spreading between house finches so check their eyes. Any strange eyes, stop the feeds and clean everything. Bigger concerns are outdoor cats or small hawks killing the birds or window strikes knocking them out. Kudos to Corinne for finding a photo of golden-winged warbler which is a beautiful and very hard to find bird.
I have this swimsuit from Universal Standard, one piece, and it’s really cute and nicely adjustable because of the straps. NO ROUCHING! Although they do have apology rouching on other suits.
I love the idea of buying local farm raised meats but my family eats way too much meat to do that. Glad some people can though. I would prefer to eat less meat but that’s a long story no one is interested in. I did look into a nearby farm but once I started getting their emails, noticed there were some things I wasn’t on board with. Such as, having Joel Salatin come and speak there. Raised some red flags for me. But I’m normally on board for supporting small businesses!
Love the food gifting. My sister got me some really good cinnamon from Penzey’s and it was the gift I didn’t know I needed.

One of my In / Outs last year was phone calls / text messages and that one is DEFINITELY carrying over! It's just so much easier!!!
That's what I'm hoping for! Plus, maybe I'll feel a little more connected with the people I'm communicating with?
I have started doing more phone and I’m still a Power Texter but I agree, phone can be nice!
Except with meeeee sorry sorry for all the texts
Always appropriate to recommend another newsletter, thanks Roxy!!
"Take me under their wing" 😂😂😂
🙈
Maybe this episode will be the thing to finally push me to install/mount the bird buddy my dad gave me for Christmas 2023.

We tried it when she was too young and both got intimidated! I’m curious to try again though. It’s sooo pretty!

I hard relate to the rebelling against and I hope you embrace your contrariness if that feels right!

I think living in Paris may be a fair trade for no air fryer space!
Hahaha it's true... but I want to reheat fries and cookies!!!

OK the Pillbury tip is gold thank you. Sending love, what a rough start to the year! (But travel sounds great.)
OMG, that Ellenos yogurt is unbelievably good. I love it!!
I'm so sorry that your year started with wildfires--but glad that you're finding safety and community!

Wow, thanks for sharing! I am obviously aware of the H5N1 outbreak but didn't know about this request so thanks for alerting me.

So on board with passion fruit, Corinne. 🙌
