I was at the AVAM the other day with my daughter and one of the large metal sculptures reminded me of something in a book I'd recently read. Which took me a few moments (more than a few, truthfully, post-menopause brain) to recall that it was in Prom Mom, and I explained to my daughter that you work at the AVAM. It was a beautiful moment of what I call "book serendipity" and thought I'd share. Thanks for that!!
Well that just makes my day. Strangely, I had finished Prom Mom before I applied to be a docent at AVAM, but I have long loved (and collected) visionary art. Just one of the best places in Baltimore.
At the risk of being earnest — the pandemic/the end of my marriage happened to align with me discovering Virginia’s work and the work of many others, including Aubrey Gordon. And it was mind-altering/life-changing. Still baby-stepping my way from the personal journey to being a better ally/activist and I have a ways to go, but I’d rather be honest about my shortcomings than self-congratulatory/hubristic.
