Well, this resonated! My husband is Indian American, and our son was born with what seemed to me like a lot of hair on his head (and I had had very bad acid reflux in the third trimester and been told that was, seemingly for real, associated with the baby having a lot of hair). But when I said something about all his hair, my mother-in-law was like "that's not a lot of hair for an Indian baby." Then a couple days after we got him home, she picked up a birth announcement from some family friends of theirs and said "see, this is a real Indian baby. She even has a mustache."
And yes, my MIL calls my child by a word that means something like chubby. With a kind of feeling of roly poly baby, as I understand it? But she still calls him that at six.
Thank you for the important conversations! And for having me crying in the grocery store this morning and yes I started my cycle today ♥️Ordering both books and maybe that cycles journal.
haven't listened yet just wanted to say I'm ordering the book right away, we are such fans of Laxmi's Mooch!
Hooray!

The cultural nuances of all of this are so fascinating.

Laxmi’s Mooch is such a sweet book. I can’t wait to check out I Love My Body Because.
